Antarctic Arts Project 2008

Nicholas is looking for schools in the Greater Melbourne area to participate in the project. This may take the form of a school visit before the voyage, email Q&A whilst onboard. The full scope of the project has yet to be finalised, therefore Nicholas is
open to discussing the particular needs and preferences of teachers to make the project as engaging and as possible. Schools anywhere can follow the artist’s journey online as well as take part in the online activities.

This is a unique opportunity to experience Antarctica through the eyes of an artist. Nicholas will document his journey through drawings, sound recordings and a weekly animatic (an animated series of drawings) which will be published on his interactive website.

The voyage has just been confirmed and commences 2 February 2008, so please read on and contact Nicholas immediately if you’re interested in participating.

Drawings from Bundanon Artists Residency by the artist Nicholas Hutcheson

Bundanon Residency 2006

A body of drawings produced during a 6 week residency in February & March 2006 at Bundanon, Arthur Boyd's former home in Shoalhaven, New South Wales. Bundanon is now run as a living arts centre, and Nicholas wishes to thank the Bundanon Trust for the unique opportunity to take part in the Artist in Residence program. www.bundanon.com.au

The natural beauty of Shoalhaven’s landscape inspires and informs all of the work, with many rapid drawings made on daily walks around the property.

The residency culminated in two large scale drawings of the Bundanon landscape, executed in the studio with charcoal. made from sticks, bark and seed pods collected from the surrounding trees. Date: 2006

Investigations in Drawings

The contemporary drawings on this site represent a sample of the art work produced by Nicholas Hutcheson. Based in Melbourne, Australia, the drawings are investigations into the subject matter as well as the process of drawing. Often large scale works on paper using colored pencil, wax, graphite, spray paints and raw pigments, subjects researched include:

Industrial Landscapes - Future Monoliths
Mummified people in South America - All that remains
Structures formed by shedding eucalyptus bark - Anatomy of Bark
Exploratory drawings from the figure - Figure Studies
Imagined anatomical landscape - Vessels
The seemingly random structures of Driftwood Drawings

The contemporary drawings have been exhibited in the Uk and more recently with a solo exhibition at Andrew Baker Art Dealers, in Brisbane Australia.
